Someone settle this: Alex and I are debating whether signing Cheaney to a 3 year deal means we have no more $2 million exception for the next 3 years. Alex says you get one every year. Who's right?

If you want proof, Portland signed Jim Jackson to a three year exception contract last year and Detlef Schrempf to a two year exception contract this year. > And I really don't think Battie or Fortson can adequately backup Vitaly if > we're playing a lumbering team like Miami or Philly. Miami managed to survive with Clarence Weatherspoon as their backup center. I seriously don't think this is going to be the "fatal flaw" of the Celtics this year. Battie may get muscled and Fortson may get into foul trouble at times, but honestly I'd rather have five talented guys on the floor rather than four talented guys and some stiff who's just around because he's big and tall. And I'm not sure what kind of quality backup center is around for the $2M exception. Alex
