Cheaney signs with Celtics

BOSTON -- Two days after pulling the trigger on a six-player 
deal that sent Ron Mercer to Denver, the Boston Celtics 
signed free-agent small forward Calbert Cheaney from the 
Washington Wizards, ESPN confirmed Thursday.

Cheaney, who signed a three-year deal, averaged 7.7 points 
and 2.8 rebounds per game last season for the Wizards. 

On Tuesday, Boston acquired forwards Danny Fortson, Eric 
Williams, guard Eric Washington and a first-round pick from 
the Denver Nuggets for guard-forward Ron Mercer, forward 
Popeye Jones and center Dwayne Schintzius.
