warning: Trade Idea

Hey all,

Nothing much to write about and I'm doing a pre-season guide for
whomever wants to read it... Came across a trade idea for you all to
consider <if you haven't deleted this by now>...

The Celtics send Travis Knight and Greg Minor to the Jazz for center
Greg Ostertag and the rights to the Philadelphia 76ers draft choice (the
one they acquired draft day for Nazr Mohammed).

Salary wise
Knight - $2,400,000
Minor - $2,520,000

Ostertag - $4,333,000

Statistics wise (97'98)

Ostertag - 63 games, 20.4mpg, .481fg%, .479ft%, 5.9rpg, 0.4apg, 2.1bpg,
4.7ppg
Eleventh in the NBA in blocks per game.

Knight - 74 games, 20.3mpg, .441fg%, .786ft%, 4.9rpg, 1.4apg, 1.1bpg,
6.5ppg
Minor - 69 games, 16.3mpg, .436fg%, .686ft%, 2.2rpg, 1.3apg, 5.0ppg

Why would the Celtics do it?

Greg Ostertag is a center whose got a wide body and when on the top of
his game is a very dominating force, witness the playoffs when he held
Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson fairly tight.

Why would the Jazz do it?

The Jazz see Ostertag as a bad contract, whereas with Travis Knight's
deal they should find that to be much more competitive. Over the past
few seasons (well since Mark Eaton retired) the Jazz have fallen in love
with soft touch centers (for example, Greg Foster). Knight has also
proven himself to be a good player when he has an inside force playing
alongside him to do the inside damage which he never had last season,
thus a major reason for his poor season. Greg Minor is simply a throwin
whom the Jazz may like because he plays a position where they lack major
talent (small forward, off guard) and could quite possibly fit into the
system and at a cheaper price than free agent Chris Morris.
