Steve Bulpett Excerpts

Here's a couple of things the Bulpett guy said in his NBA column today:

- The players make a major mistake crying poor mouth to the fans, when their
average salary is $2 million a year.

- The NBA owners aren't perfect either. A couple of years ago they were caught
hiding "basketball-related income" and had to pony up the money to the players.

- Las Vegas was a poor choice to hold a union meeting, as Bulpett says: "All
the NBA stars needed was a group of showgirls fanning them and feeding them
grapes as they lounged by the pool.

- A new league is "folly."

- The owners will accept any plan the players propose that "keeps salaries at
somewhere around 51 percent of income." But the players don't seem amenable to
this, and refuse to "put anything in the agreement that guarantees it."
