RE: The Draft

I'd like to see Pitino bring Jeff Sheppard into camp. he and Pierce would
add the outside scoring we need. I don't think Anthony Carter from Hawaii
was drafted either.

Whoa Nellie snaked Nowitski from us.

Some info on Pierce

It doesn't get much better than those two," NBA scout Marty Blake said.
"They both have all the tools to play small forward in the NBA and become
stars if they continue to improve. And they both have the skills to play
guard, too."

PIERCE FIGURES TO GO IN THE TOP FOUR. At 6-foot-7, 220 pounds, there was
some talk he would return to the Jayhawks for his senior season. But when
they were knocked out of the NCAA Tournament, he decided it was time to
make the jump. Shooting almost 36 percent from 3-point range during his
career, Pierce raised his scoring average to 20.4 as a junior, making 51.3
percent of his shots last season.

"It hasn't really hit me yet," Pierce said. "There are a lot of things
going on right now with the workouts and people trying to get a feel for
what type of player you are. They also want to see if I can play the
two-spot (shooting guard), and I think I showed I am comfortable playing
the two-guard or the small forward spot."

No less of a judge than Los Angeles Lakers general manager Jerry West is
one who is already sold on Pierce. Although the Lakers ( picking 26th) have
no shot at getting him, West already is certain of his future success.
Pierce's ballhandling is solid if not spectacular, so he is more likely to
play more at the small forward position. Then again, there are plenty of
big guards who don't handle the ball much. Consequently, Pierce won't slip
much past the first six.

"He has an NBA-like game already," West said. "He looks like he will be
able to come in and compete right away without a lot of special coaching to
get him ready to play. He plays a thinking-man's game and he is going to be
a very, very attractive player for a lot of teams."
