Bulpett: Everyone On The Celtics Available For Trades

Steve Bulpett had some very interesting stuff in today's Boston Herald, starting with
a flurry of trade talks. It seems that Philly's GM Billy King is *chatting up a
storm* at the Chicago pre-draft camp, offering everyone from Derrick Coleman to Allen
Iverson to Tim Thomas to the highest bidder. King's goal, like the majority of GM's
at the camp is to free up salary cap space. Boston seem to have been caught up
in the same spirit, as Bulpett mentions: "The Celtics appear to be willing to discuss
anyone on their roster," thus there's a lot of "quality of names being tossed about
in trade talks." Now, whether anything comes out of this gathering is questionable,
as the Celtics and other clubs have been "caught in a bit of a holding pattern.."
waiting for Philadelphia to make their moves. In regard to this, an unidentified
coach said of the 76's: "'Once they make their move, we'll see what's out there.'"
So who knows? Maybe there's a trade the size of Godzilla in the works!

In other news, Bulpett reports the Chicago Bulls back in 1996, offered Travis Knight
to the C's for a "future second-round pick", when they couldn't convince Knight to
play over in Europe. M.L. Carr told the Bulls to take a hike, and the rest is rather
expensive salary cap history. As Bulpett whimsically points out: "Had the Celtics
made the deal in '96, Knight would be heading into the third and final year of a
short-money pact." A rival coach echoed this point by commenting, "'But if the
Celtics make it (WC: i.e. trading for Knight), they save themselves from last
summer's mess and you're looking at a whole different outlook for that team.'"
