Larry Bird

A comment on Larry Bird.  I live in Columbia, SC and the pros that live
here play up at the Y in the summer.  Xavier McDaniel is always giving
me grief because I wear Celtic tee shirts etc.  I think it was two
summers ago when some of the boys from the hood started running down
Larry Bird.  X got up and shut them down.  In his word, "Man, you don't
know shit.  I am telling you Larry Bird is one cool mother******."  He
went on to tell some Bird stories.  I would say that X would not give
that endorsement if it weren't true.  Is he arrogant?  Maybe, but that
confidence made him the Man.  Is it wrong to say that Larry is
arrogant?  I don't think so.  I think it is true.  But, that doesn't
mean that he is not a decent human being.  All of us have our faults.
So, what's the beef about.  Bird is arrogant, and Bird is cool.  Nothing
wrong with that.  Who you gonna take with your first pick, the arrogant
guy who believes in himself, or the one wracked with doubt who won't
perform.

Lighten up.  And we don't need to defend Larry, his game and his record
this year speak well enough.
