flaming

Listen folks (and you know who you are), this list is one of my only
sources of Celtics info and discussion living here in Australia, and I'd
prefer if all the Web Nazis would keep the flaming to a minimum. I'm not
going to bother entering into a debate on semantics, trying to define what
constitutes a "personal attack". What had been transpiring is known to us
all as "flaming", and I had hoped that most of us are adults and therefore
above that kind of thing.

Now, don't get me wrong, I disagree with a lot of what Dan said, too, and
some of the way he said it. I still think that Larry was the greatest
player ever to lace up a pair of hightops. I also think he's doing a
fantastic job coaching the Pacers. But I, too, felt a little bad taste in
my mouth when I read his comments about the game. But do you know why (and
maybe this is why Dan wrote what he did)? Because I wanted his feelings
about returning to Boston to be the same as my feelings - you know,
nostalgia for the past, remembering the great years of the 80s, etc. But
our feelings aren't the same - Larry is coaching now, and his will to win
is (thankfully) as strong as ever. So good on Larry Legend for speaking his
mind.

Regardless, I think the kind of flaming Dan received was excessive, unless
one of you wants to promulgate an extensive list of "acceptable" and
"unacceptable" opinions. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and if
we can't keep all of the cheap rhetoric out of it, then let's move on to
the next topic. Or by all means carry on as much flaming as you want in
private emails (although the whole point of flaming is to do it in public
and embarrass someone). I think everyone is on this list because they are a
fan of the Celts, so let's stop being so hard on each other.
