Yesterday was the deadline for contracts. If the Nets had not released
them the Nets would have been locked into their salary for the balance of
the season. By releasing them, they can sign them to a couple of 10 day
contracts and then resign them for league minimum for the balance of the
year. The league min. is probably substantially lower then their previous
salaries. It is strictly a business decision. The C's have done this often
in the past. Hope this helps. If anyone else can expand on this, please
