BOSTON 99, ORLANDO 96
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Antoine Walker scored 21 of his 31 points in the second half and Chris
Mills added 19 as the Boston Celtics held off the Orlando Magic, 99-96,
for their first preseason victory.
Walker, who had 13 of his points in the third quarter, pulled down a
game-high 15 rebounds. He has led the club in both scoring and
rebounding in all but one game this season.
Fellow University of Kentucky alumnus Ron Mercer, a rookie, added 17
points for the Celtics (1-5).
Boston enjoyed a 14-point lead with 2:10 left in the third quarter until
Penny Hardaway got hot for the Magic. He hit a three-pointer to cut the
deficit to 11, then converted on a pair of three-point plays to pull
Orlando within 74-68 after three quarters.
The Magic tied it 80-80 early in the final period but were unable to
take the lead before Boston pulled away again.
