Since the discussion of possible trades on this list has no bearing on
what the Celtics do, ordinarily I feel no overwhelming desire to express
my opinion. But in the case of recent conjecture about a trade for
Derrick Coleman, well, I just couldn't keep quiet. Simply, we do not want
Coleman on the Celtics. I'm stuck with lots of coverage of the Sixers and
about the only thing that everyone seems to agree on is that Coleman is
an injury-prone tub of goo with a bad attitude. Yes, yes, he has
potential. But that's another way of saying he isn't achieving anything
now. Moreover, he's not nearly as good as he thinks he is -- or even
nearly as good as his past press reports -- and he has the work ethic of
Ronald Reagan. He resists motivation from coaches fabulously well so
don't expect any of that to change with a team he doesn't want to play
for (and he's included the Celtics in that list). Besides, do you really
want to have to root for him? Me, I'd rather round up rats on the Red Line.
