I found this article about penny hardaway by Vescey. Pay special attention
to the last paragraph. It's great to see someone being honest!!!
"I owe it to the franchise to give the Magic
the first shot to
sign me," he said. "As long as management
proves to me
it's willing to do what it takes to win."
Next summer is pivotal, Hardaway underscores. The
Magic will have between $4 million and $10M in
cap room
to recruit one, possible two, elite free
agents. When the
Rockets were in that position two summers ago,
Hakeem
Olajuwon demanded the majority of the available
funds for
himself. Consequently, Kevin Willis has been
the only
established veteran since to get more than a
bare minimum
guarantee.
"No way will I do that," Hardaway asserted. "I
had a taste
of the Finals and it wasn't enough. I want to
win it all. And
we're a piece or two away from doing that."
Not that Penny has anything against collecting
his share of
Benjamins. As if anyone has forgotten how
Hardaway was
booed in Orlando when he demanded a $100M contract
following his rookie year.
"Kevin Garnett is a good friend of mine and a
good player,
too. But I could never say with a straight face
that it's not
about the money. I love the game, and I have
fun playing
it, but it is about the money!"
