collins, etc...
A newspaper in Detroit is reporting that Doug Collins
probably will leave the Pistons. That will be a plum job. It
will be interesting to see what they shell out for a coach.
The Pitino fallout is staggering, but exciting. Who would
have guessed anyone would bring enough clout to take Red's
title, even if it was more or less a ceremonial title? The
idea of starting from scratch in the organization is
energizing.
Pitino says the biggest needs are a big man and a point
guard. That's surprising, although as much as Wesley has
improved, I believe there are serious concerns about his
ability to really run a team. That comment makes speculation
about the Dallas pick even more interesting. Would he
consider Antonio Daniels? Chauncey Billups? Brevin Knight?
Jauque Vaughn? I haven't seen enough of Daniels or Billups
to speculate, but I'm still a bigger fan of Knight than
Vaughn.
I'm also of the opinion that Dee Brown might fit nicely into
a Pitino system, but I think one player we're overlooking is
Greg Minor. He also is athletic, can run the floor and shows
signs of being a good defender. I also agree that Dino may
be the guy Pitino tries to dump, provided he can find
another power forward (Antoine can play there, but he's a
natural small forward). I know we don't have much available
money under the cap this year, but if we can free up some I
think there is one free agent on this year's list that might
fit: Brian Grant. Remember, he was the No. 7 pick in the
draft a couple years ago and had a very solid rookie season
before struggling through an injury early this season. He is
6-9, runs the floor and has good hands. Just a thought..
