New Backcourt/Ben Pepper

My reactions to the events of this evening:

1. THANK HEAVENS THAT PIPPEN WILL NOT BE IN BOSTON. To all you
Scottie fans out there, try this on for size: "F--- you, Rick! If you
call that play for Walker I won't go back in the game!"

2. I did like Van Horn, but I'm perfectly happy with a Billups/Mercer
backcourt. Now it seems like Pitino really WAS blowing smoke about
Mercer and we have all summer to dream about how big an upside this guy
really has. As for Billups, I'll trust what Pitino said about his game
- -- size, speed, quickness, shooting ability, defense, passing ... no
weaknesses whatsoever. Thanks for the effort, Wes, and I hope you get a
nice fat juicy contract in Charlotte or Denver.

3. Nice to see Rick hasn't given up on the Radja trade. Wouldn't it be
sweet to force Mr. Overpaid, Lazy, Two-Packs-a-Day-Loser to join Iverson
& Co. after all AND screw up the Sixers'/Nets' blockbuster (presumably
Philly would have to scramble to come up with a replacement for Cage in
their deal with NJ)!

4. Where does this leave Fox? Or, for that matter, Brown and Minor?

5. I assume next Tuesday Chris Wallace will be burning up the phone
lines to Dean Garrett's and Travis Knight's agents with that $1 million
exemption burning a hole in his pocket. Let's hope Jayson Williams
stays a Net until Stern comes through for us and allows us to get our
hands on Weatherspoon as trade bait.

6. And most importantly of all -- WHO OR WHAT IS A BEN PEPPER?
