Fellow listees, the following was found in today's globe:
The Dino Radja-for-Clarence Weatherspoon and Michael Cage trade still
isn't official, but there are rumors two of the
players may be dealt again.
The 76ers were expecting the 6-foot-11-inch Radja to
be in Philadelphia
yesterday; he didn't appear. Once Radja takes his
physical with the Sixers,
the Cavaliers supposedly are interested in dealing
power forward Tyrone
Hill and a draft pick for him.
Also, it appears that a rumored swap between the
Sixers and Bulls (Radja
and Jerry Stackhouse for Scottie Pippen and another
player) is off, mostly
because the salaries don't match up.
As for Weatherspoon, talk persists that he could be
headed for the New
Jersey swamplands. The Celtics have discussed Nets
power forward Jayson
Williams for the past several weeks and could move
Weatherspoon for him.
The players' 1997-98 salaries are nearly identical at
approximately $2.8
million.
If the Celtics acquire Williams, three of their needs
could be filled by
Wednesday night: power forward (Williams), point guard
(Chauncey
Billups/Antonio Daniels), and shooting guard (Ron
Mercer).
Sources say John Carroll will be introduced as the
Celtics' third assistant
coach today. Carroll, formerly the head man at
Duquesne, also will do
advance scouting.
