Dino's Salary

I was wondering why the C's could only free-up $2.8 of Dino's salary if
and when he signs with Greece. It just doesn't make sense. After reading
the following excerpt from an article on the globe, I got a little
confused.

"Pitino said yesterday that he expected the Celtics to have around $2.8
million available if the deal went through. If that's the case, the
Celtics would be paying around $7.5 million for Radja to leave Boston
and play in Greece;"

How did they get $2.8??

After scratching my head a few times, I finally got it. Dino has 3-years
left on his contract. He is supposed to make $5.3 million this coming
season. The Celtics have to pay him a total of $7.5 million to get rid
of him and his $16.2 million contract.
So, ($5.3 for 97-98 season) - ($7.5 / 3 = 2.5 per year) = $5.3 - $2.5 =
2.8 million. Wow, why didn't the Globe just say that??

Am I the only one who wasn't sure why a minus $5.3 resulted in $2.8???
