everything green

Dorine I agree with a lot of what you said and respect the fact
that you've been a loyal fan for so long. (I myself have been one since
1985.) I think Pitino's talk about wanting to keep Fox was a bunch of
crap. He could have waited for the Dino situation to be resolved before
signing Knight. That would have left space for Fox salary cap wise. I
think the reason he let him go is that he already has Mercer, Minor,
Walker, and Williams to play at the 2 and 3 positions and thus very few
minutes for anyone else to play there. Which to me is fine, but it would
have been nice if he had leveled with everyone.
And like you, I am also pulling big time for Dee Brown. I would
like to see him start along with Mercer in the backcourt while Billups
learns how to be an NBA point guard. And even when Chauncey earns the
starting point guard position, Dee will still make a great third guard.
One of Dana and Minor (or both) should be moved to keep the guard postions
from overloading.
But the house cleaning was a good idea because it frees up two
roster spots (3 if Dino signs in Greece). Two of those should go to
Joseph and Coleman. JLyell pointed out that they might be mediocre, but
right now we don't have any centers. I consider Knight and Pervis to be
4's who can play a little center. And no one is advocating signing these
guys long term. But you have nothing to lose signing them to the league
minimum for a year.

Unfortunately I didn't go to the mini-camp last night because I
couldn't find anyone to go with, so I don't have a report. But in today's
Globe they said Dee looked good with 19 points and many assists to Mercer
who scored 23. They also mentioned that Awojobi has been cut. I can't
post the article because I'm not allowed to web surf. It also mentioned
that Spencer Ross (the radio play-by-play guy) has been replaced. But
that was WEEI's decision not Pitino's. I agree with that move because he
and Cedric Maxwell didn't seem to have very good chemistry. And since
Maxwell is a Celtic, you have to keep him.

Random free agency prediction: Utah will renounce Hornacek if they
can sign Bobby Phills. Phills would give them a young, athletic 2 guard
who could defend Jordan in the finals next year. And Cleveland will
probably let him go since they just drafted Derek Anderson and still have
Bobby Sura.
