Here is a reprint of a report in this mornings Globe for you out of town
Celtic fans:
Celtics Notebook: Augmon may
augment ever-changing lineup
By Michael Holley, Globe Staff, 01/03/97
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - He said there would be
changes this year. Apparently coach M.L. Carr wasn't
just talking about lineup experiments with the players
already on his team. Sources indicate that the Celtics are
seriously interested in acquiring Pistons swingman Stacey
Augmon. The deal could be done soon.
Before last night's game at the Palace, Carr was seen
speaking with Rick Sund, the Pistons' vice president of
basketball operations. Carr would not confirm his team's
interest in Augmon.
If the deal happens, it will most likely be a swap of
players who have expressed a desire to be elsewhere.
Augmon, a 6-foot-8-inch, 205-pound forward known
for his versatility, is having the worst season of his
five-year career. He is averaging only 14 minutes per
game and already has sat out nine games at coach Doug
Collins' discretion. A career 13-point scorer, he is
averaging 4.2 points. Things have gotten so bad for
Augmon that he now is behind Michael Curry in the
team's rotation.
Augmon logged his 10th DNP-CD of the season last
night. He was the only healthy Piston who did not play.
He said he was not aware of any deal in the works.
Dee Brown would be the new Piston. The Pistons could
use someone who can play both guard positions. And
although today is the one-year anniversary of Brown
asking out of town, that sentiment has not lessened
tremendously.
Augmon is very athletic and a slasher. He was a terrific offensive weapon
when he was with the Hawks. My concern about this trade would be the minutes
he might take away from Minor or Williams. Though sending Dee packing is
still something the C's must do. Anyone know how many years are left on
Augmon's contract?
